SEPANG – KL International Airport (KLIA) today welcomed Vietjet Thailand with the launch of a daily direct service between KLIA Terminal 2 and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Inaugural flight VZ680, operated by a Boeing 737-8, arrived at a welcoming ceremony marking the launch of the new service. The new service further expands KLIA's regional connectivity , following its recent ranking as the world's fourth most connected international airport and Asia Pacific's most connected Megahub in the OAG 2026 Megahubs Index.
Malaysia maintains extensive air links with Thailand, spanning beyond Bangkok to popular regional destinations such as Hatyai, Ko Samui, Krabi, Chiangmai, and Phuket. Demonstrating this robust demand, passenger traffic between Malaysia and Thailand totaled 2.1 million travelers during the first half of 2026 across key routes connecting Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Subang, and Langkawi.
The Chief Airports Officer of Malaysia Airports, Bryan Thompson said, "The addition of a new Thailand-based carrier enhances capacity and expands options within one of Malaysia's primary regional markets. Network growth extends beyond simply adding airlines and routes, it is about cultivating the right conditions for markets to flourish. Increased connectivity drives tourism, business, and trade while offering passengers greater flexibility in their travel arrangements. This represents the sustainable network expansion we are building at KLIA to reinforce its position as a leading regional aviation hub.
Vietjet Thailand joins two other full service airlines i.e. Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways as the third carrier operating the Kuala Lumpur–Bangkok Suvarnabhumi route. This addition expands seat capacity and offers passengers enhanced flexibility when scheduling travel between the two capital cities. The daily flight complements existing air connectivity between Malaysia and Thailand, providing travelers with additional low-cost options to Thailand via both Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). Suvarnabhumi is also served from Penang via Thai Airways while Don Mueang International Airport is serviced by Malaysian carriers including AirAsia and Batik Air out of Kuala Lumpur, Batik Air from Subang, and Firefly via Penang.
